You are the Light of the World!

Merry Christmas to all of you!

It’s incredible to think that almost four years have past; since our last post! We hope all of you are doing well and have found our “rootings” uplifting and helpful for you to become more rooted in the our Lord Jesus Christ through the Bible, His love letter to us!

As we prayerfully look forward to the future, our Lord Jesus Christ’s words in Matt 5:13-16 comes to mind:

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.”

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

After spending some time in the Gospel of John, we may find that our Lord Jesus mentions that He is the “Light” in a few different passages. If we spend even more time in the Gospel of John, we may start to think this is the theme of the book; since, it practically starts the book and our Lord Jesus speaks on this more than once. Some examples follow.

John 1:1-5, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

John 8:12, Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

John 12:35-36, So Jesus said to them, “For a little while longer the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light.

After spending some time meditating on the above passages; as well as, the passages which follow the above passages, we may realize that our Lord Jesus is exhorting us to follow His instructions on how we are to be salt and light to our world. We may even realize that our Lord Jesus, who created this world, and all that is in it, by His words, is declaring that we are salt and light to our world.

By agreeing with our Lord Jesus in our daily prayers and declarations (or confessions), we can partner with our Lord Jesus to make this a reality in our lives. This is true because we have the same power through our Lord Jesus; since we are made in the image of our Creator. Some supporting passages follow:

Gen 1:27, God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Mark 11:23-24, “Truely I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.”

John 14:12-15, “Truely, truely, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

We pray the Holy Spirit would move upon all of us making us salt and light to our world, that we would follow our Lord’s voice (John 10:1-18), that through Him we would bear an abundance of fruit (John 15:1-17)!
